WATER, WATER AND MORE WATER

Do you love water or can you relate when I say I only tolerate it because it's healthy and I have too??

I know a lot of people don't have a problem drinking water and yes I've heard many times that water is water, there is no difference  To me there is and I know I can't be the only one who is picky.  I used to love water when I was younger. I remember as a little girl that we just filled up a pitcher with tap water and put it in the fridge till it was cold and that's what we drank. Nowadays the water from the tap taste funky and I'm on a quest to find a water that taste good enough to drink.

WATER 101

Not all waters are created equal. The seemingly endless sea of labels and brands on the market often makes it difficult to determine which are best. Many water drinkers incorrectly assume a bottle of purified water from a major soft drink company to be spring water sourced from a protected mountain valley in a land far, far away. To the contrary, many contain nothing more than filtered water from a municipal supply.

NATURAL SPRING WATER

Spring Water is widely recognized as the product of choice for the discerning and the thirsty. To carry the title of Natural Spring Water, the water must be derived from an underground formation and, from there, flow naturally to the surface of the earth. Spring water must be collected only at the spring or through a shaft, which taps the underground formation.

PURIFIED WATER

Water that is processed by means of distillation, deionization, reverse osmosis or any other recognized method meeting the definition of purified water in the United States.

MINERAL WATER

Distinguished from other types of bottled water by its constant level and relative proportions of minerals and trace elements at the point of emergence from the source. No minerals can be added to this product.

ARTESIAN WATER

Bottled water from a well or spring that taps a confined, water-bearing underground layer of rock or sand, called an aquifer, in which the water level stands above the top of the aquifer.

WELL WATER

Bottled water from a hole that has been bored, drilled or otherwise constructed in the ground, which taps a water aquifer.

SPARKLING WATER

Water that after treatment or possible replacement with carbon dioxide, contains the same amount of carbon dioxide that it had as it emerged from the source. Sparkling bottled waters may be labeled as sparkling drinking water, sparkling spring water or sparkling mineral water.

Lately when I go the the store I grab a few bottles of every kind of water I see to take home and try. So far I can say I have 3 brands that I find more tolerable than others and then there are 3-4 brands that I know I will never buy again. So here are my ratings on waters
1-8

Rating: ****
This one has to be my favorite of all the waters. The average cost for this brand is $1.00-&1.50 a bottle and I have yet to find a store that you can buy it by the case so I just get a couple bottles at a time.

AQUAFINA-pure bottled water
Rating: ****
PepsiCo Inc. produces three types of Aquafina water: pure water, Aquafina FlavorSplash and Aquafina Sparkling. Aquafina pure water originates from public water sources and goes through a seven-step purification process. Aquafina FlavorSplash comes in six flavors: Grape, Wild Berry, Strawberry Kiwi, Raspberry, Lemon and Peach Mango. Aquafina Sparkling is a carbonated water beverage with fruit flavor. It comes in Berry Burst or Citrus Twist. Personally I prefer the pure water to the other types. Which I buy by the 24pk

EVIAN-Natural Spring water

The first word that comes to mind when describing this water is think. I don't understand but I really do not care for it at all. I mainly chose to try this water because of all the publicity it gets on tv.

DASANI-Purified Water
Rating: **
Getting down to the waters that I don't care to try again. Dasani is yet another that is tolerable, meaning if I couldn't find my favorite brands I would but this but not in the case. Dasani is a Coca-Cola product which is marketed as "expertly designed water." The company produces their product by taking water from the local water supply, then filtering it to remove impurities. The water is then mixed with a blend of minerals. Water is essential to any healthy diet, but this product does not provide much in the way of nutritional value.

DEER PARK-Pure spring water
Rank: **
Yet another brand I don't care for and as for spring water I care for it the very least. I don't know what it is about the taste but it is one that this girl does not like.

Deer Park, is of the oldest and most well known brands of natural spring water in North America, it was originally founded on a natural spring located approximately 3,000 feet above sea level in the Appalachian Mountains, just outside the small town of Deer Park, Maryland.

FIJI-Natural Artesian Water
Rating: *

This water is at the very bottom of my list for a good reason. YUCK!! I did not like it and really don't have anything positive to say about it.

Fiji water is an expensive alternative to tap water. Fiji water is artesian water sourced on the island of Fiji. Artesian water is defined by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as "water from a well tapping a confined aquifer in which the water level stands at some height above the top of the aquifer." Artesian water is not mineral water, however, and therefore must not meet the minimum 250 ppm concentration of designated "mineral water" in the U.S.

I have never been a big water drinker but have become the past 2-3 years as part of a diet and a healthier lifestyle approach. I drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. That is no problem in Athens, Greece as tap water is still good. There are also many spring and mineral waters to be found in Greece, too.

Tap water here is not so good it has a strong chlorine smell and just doesn't taste to good to me. I hope that when we do move the new place will have well water with a purifier on it. I am going to get used to drinking water all the time. I'm going to be having gastric bypass surgery within the next few months and will be on a liquid diet for a while.

I grew up in the country drinking well water, but we also had a fresh spring by our house that we would get water from once in awhile. I love both. I live in town now, but won't drink the tap water. I am your newest GFC follower, and found you via 'Welcome to Weekend Blog Hop'. I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

I agree that not all are the same - some you can definitely have an after-taste. We usually go with the PureLife or just generic distilled water from the store but my favorite water actually comes from our cabin in Northern Michigan. The sand content of the soil makes for a perfect natural filter - its the cleanest, coldest water from a tap. We try to remember to take empty jugs with us if we have the room so we can bring it home. :)

DH thinks I am nuts b/c I won't drink certain types of water.

Dasani and Great Value (only the ones bottled in GA) are disgusting to me.

I agree there are different tastes of water. My favorite is nestle's bottled water.

If I had to pick a favorite it would be Poland Spring. I have to leave tap water sitting in the fridge before I can even go near it--if desperate I can drink any of the "waters" sold but really do not like them--Generally I add in 4 C mix to make the water taste good (4 C has 0 everything)
